TOPIC - How to grow Waratahs and Flannel Flowers from seed and cuttings.

VENUE – Phillip House, 21 Old Mount Penang Road, Kariong

Visitors are welcome to arrive after 7.00 pm

$5 entry for visitors at this particular meeting. APS members will pay $2 as usual.

You will receive a ticket in the Plant Raffle and supper.  There are Native plant sales at some meetings.

There is nearly always an Australian native plant display & identification table. These are usually from native plants flowering in members' gardens.

Maria Hitchcock has had a passion for Australian Native Plants for around 40 years and owns the Cool Climate Native Nursery in Armidale NSW. She leads the APS Waratah and Flannel Flower Study Group. At our meeting / workshop Maria will be giving away seeds for people to take home to propagate their own seedlings.  There will also be Propagation Information Cards available for these two plants.

With others Maria successfully campaigned for the Golden Wattle Acacia pycnantha to be gazetted as Australia's national floral emblem in 1988. She was also responsible for the introduction of National Wattle Day in 1992.  Maria has endeavoured to save endangered native plants by setting up the online group called Save Our Flora which is dedicated to rare and threatened native plants.

In 2018 Maria received an OAM for service to conservation and the environment.
