NEXT MEETING - Friday 9th March at 7.30 pm

SPEAKER – Pam O'Sullivan

TOPIC - 100 things you should know about fungi

VENUE – Phillip House, 21 Old Mount Penang Road, Kariong

$2 entry includes a ticket in the Plant Raffle and supper

Pam O'Sullivan has had an interest in fungi for over 40 years.  Due to the lack of knowledge and reference material on Australian Fungi she has worked hard by herself and with others through workshops, field trips, publications and presentations to raise the level of awareness of the importance of this second largest group of organisms after insects.

Pam also has a passion for our Australian native plants.  She has worked in the Scientific Division of the National Herbarium in Sydney, has lectured, tutored and been a conjoint at the University of Newcastle.  She is currently working towards establishing the NSW Mycological Society.

Pam's presentation will be an overview of what fungi are, their ecological roles, how they gain their nutrients, benefits to soils and plants and wider beneficial roles such as reducing erosion, roles in industry including medicine and more.  These wonderful organisms are fascinating, incredibly photogenic and fundamental to the functioning of our ecosystems and our day to day lives.

Come and be amazed!
