NEXT MEETING - Saturday 14 July 2018 at 2.00 pm

SPEAKER – CC APS member volunteers

TOPIC - Wattle / Acacia

VENUE – Phillip House, 21 Old Mount Penang Road, Kariong

$2 entry includes a ticket in the Plant Raffle and afternoon tea.  Native plant sales also.

There is nearly always an Australian native plant display & identification table. These are plants flowering in members' gardens.

This is a meeting for members' contributions regarding Acacias they may be growing or observing in bushland.  Everyone is encouraged to bring flowering cuttings if possible or offer information about their favourite wattle.

There are more than 1000 species of Acacia growing all over Australia, including Tasmania.  They flower at different times of the year so there is nearly always one flowering somewhere around the country.

Since 1992 National Wattle Day has been celebrated on 1 September by all Australia's states and territories.  Our national floral emblem is the Golden Wattle Acacia pycnantha which was officially gazetted in 1988. The first celebrations in NSW, Victoria and South Australia were held on 1 September 1910.
